Hire influencers in Canada

Costs, the disclosure rule, and a safe way to pay.

To hire an influencer in Canada, shortlist creators whose recent posts reach your buyers, agree the price and ad rights in writing, make sure every material connection is disclosed upfront, and pay in stages.

The advertising rule in Canada

The Competition Bureau says influencers should disclose every material connection with a brand: payment or commissions, free products or services, discounts, free trips or tickets, or a personal or family relationship. The disclosure should be prominent, visible on all devices without tapping to expand, and repeated on every platform where the content is shared. Tagging a brand, posting a discount code, or linking to an affiliate page is unlikely to be enough on its own.

Ad Standards' Influencer Marketing Disclosure Guidelines (updated in 2025) call #ad, used on its own, the gold standard. They also list #sponsored, #Gifted, and #XYZPartner. The Bureau's checklist warns against vague terms such as "Ambassador", "Partner", "SP", and "Spon", so #ad is the safer choice. For French-language content Ad Standards lists #pub and #commandite.

Breaching the Competition Act can lead to civil or criminal action by the Bureau.

This is not legal advice. Check the current rules, and agree in your contract who adds the label and where.

What it costs

We do not have a Canada-specific rate table. As a guide, the median agreed fee for one collaboration in Kolect's 2026 campaigns (global, in US dollars) was $250 for creators under 10K followers, $400 for 10K to 100K, and $600 for 100K to 500K. Convert to Canadian dollars at the day's rate and treat the number as a starting point for a negotiation.

To price one creator, use the influencer rate calculator.

Before you book

  • Ask for #ad at the start of the caption, and in the video itself where the post is a video.
  • Ask for the disclosure on every platform the content is shared on.
  • Do not accept "Ambassador", "Partner", or "SP" as the only label.
  • Name who adds the label in the contract. The duty is shared by the brand, any agency, and the creator.

How Antellio handles the deal

  • Creators connect their accounts, so the media kit shows live stats.
  • Contracts fix the scope, dates, and usage. Milestones track the work.
  • The brand funds escrow, and the money is released when you approve.
  • Fees: 5% when a brand adds money to a wallet, and 5% when a creator cashes out. Brand plans are Launch $0, Growth $60, and Scale $200 a month.

Questions

How much does it cost to hire an influencer in Canada?

We do not publish a Canada-specific figure. Global medians from Kolect's 2026 campaigns were $250, $400, and $600 for creators under 10K, 10K to 100K, and 100K to 500K followers, so convert to Canadian dollars. Use the rate calculator for a specific creator.

Do influencer posts need a label in Canada?

Yes. Influencers should disclose any material connection, such as payment, free products, or discounts, in a way that is prominent and visible without expanding the post. #ad on its own is the clearest label. This is not legal advice.

Who is responsible for the disclosure in Canada?

Ad Standards says the duty is shared by everyone in the collaboration: the brand, any agency or PR firm that arranges the deal, and the influencer.

How do I pay a creator safely?

Put the scope, dates, usage, and price in a contract, and pay in stages. On Antellio the brand funds escrow and the money is released after you approve the work.
