Costs, the "Werbung" label rule, and a safe way to pay.
To hire an influencer in Germany, shortlist creators whose recent posts reach your buyers, agree the price and ad rights in writing, make sure the first word of the post is "Werbung" or "Anzeige", and pay in stages.
The advertising rule in Germany
German unfair competition law (UWG, section 5a) says the commercial purpose of a post must be made clear unless it is obvious from the context. Since May 2022, if an influencer receives payment or a similar return for a post, or has been promised one, it counts as advertising, and it is presumed that they received one unless they can show otherwise.
Even without payment, a post can need a label if it is over-promotional, for example if it praises a product with no critical distance or links to the manufacturer's site. The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) ruled on this in 2021.
The state media authorities' guide says the label must be recognisable at first glance, on every device, without scrolling or expanding. In a caption, "Werbung" or "Anzeige" should be the first word. "Bezahlte Werbepartnerschaft" also works. Not enough: "ad", "sponsored by", "PR sample", "Advertorial", and "Infomercial". Every ad post counts, including each story slide in an ad context. A platform tool can be the only label if its wording is "Werbung", "Anzeige", or "bezahlte Werbepartnerschaft".
Missing labels can lead to warning letters (Abmahnungen) or fines.
This is not legal advice. Check the current rules, and agree in your contract who adds the label and where.
What it costs
We do not have a Germany-specific rate table. As a guide, the median agreed fee for one collaboration in Kolect's 2026 campaigns (global, in US dollars) was $250 for creators under 10K followers, $400 for 10K to 100K, and $600 for 100K to 500K. Convert to euros at the day's rate and treat the number as a starting point for a negotiation.
To price one creator, use the influencer rate calculator.
Before you book
Ask for "Werbung" or "Anzeige" as the first word of the caption.
Ask for the label on every story slide that carries the ad.
Do not accept #ad, "sponsored by", or "PR sample" as the only label.
Agree who checks the live post, since both sides can receive a warning letter.

Questions
How much does it cost to hire an influencer in Germany?
We do not publish a Germany-specific figure. Global medians from Kolect's 2026 campaigns were $250, $400, and $600 for creators under 10K, 10K to 100K, and 100K to 500K followers, so convert to euros. Use the rate calculator for a specific creator.
Do influencer posts need a label in Germany?
Yes. If an influencer gets payment or a similar return, the post must be labelled, and the German media authorities want "Werbung" or "Anzeige" as the first word, clearly visible without scrolling. This is not legal advice.
Do I need a label if I did not pay the creator?
Not automatically. A post without payment or a return does not always need a label, but a very promotional post, with no critical distance or a link to the manufacturer, can. Ask a lawyer if you are unsure.
How do I pay a creator safely?
Put the scope, dates, usage, and price in a contract, and pay in stages. On Antellio the brand funds escrow and the money is released after you approve the work.
