Costs, the disclosure rule, and a safe way to pay.
To hire an influencer in Malaysia, shortlist creators whose recent posts reach your buyers, agree the price and ad rights in writing, make sure the post is labelled as an advertisement, and pay in stages.
Hire in 5 steps
Set one goal and one budget, for example sales, signups, or content you can run as ads.
Pick the platform where your buyers already watch, then shortlist five to ten creators.
Read each creator's last 10 posts and the comments. Look for natural mentions of products like yours.
Ask for the rate, whether the post can run as an ad (and for how many days), and how many revisions are included.
Sign a contract and pay in stages, or fund escrow so the money is held until you approve the work.
What it costs
We do not have a Malaysia-specific rate table. As a guide, the median agreed fee for one collaboration in Kolect's 2026 campaigns (global, in US dollars) was $250 for creators under 10K followers, $400 for 10K to 100K, and $600 for 100K to 500K. Convert to ringgit at the day's rate and treat the number as a starting point for a negotiation.
To price one creator, use the influencer rate calculator.
Label sponsored posts
Malaysia's industry Content Code says posts made in exchange for payment or another reciprocal arrangement must be clearly disclosed. The disclosure should sit with the endorsement itself and use an upfront label such as "Advertisement", "Ad", or "Sponsored". It also says to avoid vague terms such as "sp", "spon", or "collab", and stand-alone words such as "thanks" or "ambassador".
This is not legal advice. Check the current code and agree who adds the label in your contract.
