Costs, the ASA ad label rule, and a safe way to pay.
To hire an influencer in New Zealand, shortlist creators whose recent posts reach your buyers, agree the price and ad rights in writing, make sure every paid post and story is labelled as an ad at first sight, and pay in stages.
The advertising rule in New Zealand
Rule 2(a) of the Advertising Standards Code says advertisements must be identified as such. The ASA says influencer content about a product or service, made in return for payment of any kind, financial or otherwise, is an ad. It should be obvious at the audience's first interaction, without having to click or work it out. A disclosure only in a bio does not count.
Labels must be obvious, clear, prominent, and upfront, and separate from other disclosures, hashtags, or links. The ASA recommends "Ad", "Advert", or "Advertisement", with or without a hashtag, or a platform paid-partnership banner. Every post that includes ad content, and each story segment that does, needs a label.
The influencer, the advertiser, and any agents are all responsible. The ASA says advertisers should state their expectations on identification in contracts with influencers, and with gifted products where there is no formal contract. Paid, gifted, and incentivised content, affiliate codes, and brand ambassador deals can all make a post an ad.
This is not legal advice. Check the current rules, and agree in your contract who adds the label and where.
What it costs
We do not have a New Zealand-specific rate table. As a guide, the median agreed fee for one collaboration in Kolect's 2026 campaigns (global, in US dollars) was $250 for creators under 10K followers, $400 for 10K to 100K, and $600 for 100K to 500K. Convert to New Zealand dollars at the day's rate and treat the number as a starting point for a negotiation.

Questions
How much does it cost to hire an influencer in New Zealand?
We do not publish a New Zealand-specific figure. Global medians from Kolect's 2026 campaigns were $250, $400, and $600 for creators under 10K, 10K to 100K, and 100K to 500K followers, so convert to New Zealand dollars. Use the rate calculator for a specific creator.
Do influencer posts need a label in New Zealand?
Yes. The ASA says influencer content made in return for any payment, financial or otherwise, is an ad and must be clearly labelled at first sight, for example with "Ad" or a platform paid-partnership banner. This is not legal advice.
Does a gifted product make a post an ad in New Zealand?
It can. The ASA says content made in return for payment of any kind, financial or otherwise, is an ad, and that gifted or incentivised posts need a clear label.
How do I pay a creator safely?
Put the scope, dates, usage, and price in a contract, and pay in stages. On Antellio the brand funds escrow and the money is released after you approve the work.
